Frequently Asked Martial Arts Questions
-
Moo Duk Kwan is one of the five Kwans, or houses, in the lineage of Taekwondo. Moo Duk Kwan translates to “House of Martial Virtue”. Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo was originally founded and developed by Grandmaster Hwang Kee in 1945, spawning from his many years of training in Korean martial arts. Hwang Kee began teaching his modified art, Tang Soo Do, which he later modified into Soo Bahk Do and Taekwondo as we know it. Over the next 20 years, Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo as we know it today came to fruition in 1965. Our Grandmaster, Kyongwon Ahn, is a 9th Dan Grandmaster, once a student of Grandmaster Hwang Kee, who helped to modernize and spread the virtues and benefits of Taekwondo across the world.

Keeping your body in good health is a natural key to longevity and life. But, along with keeping our bodies in good health, we must keep our minds in good health. Martial arts help an individual grow not only physically, but mentally. Martial arts help individuals learn discipline, perseverance, dedication, strength, patience, and so much more. While it helps with all of the mental and physical aspects, martial arts inherently teaches us how to defend ourselves and our loved ones, should the need ever arise. Combining all these aspects is what makes martial arts an incredibly valuable asset to an individual in life.

Absolutely. U.S. Moo Do Academy is a family-owned business and actively encourages families to train and learn together. We have many families that have trained and grown through the ranks together, some even becoming instructors at the school today. If our encouragement isn’t enough, we also offer discounts to encourage families to join as one.

Yes, everyone starts at the same rank and same place in our organization and we believe everyone, even our instructors, is constantly learning and growing. We encourage beginners or anyone even remotely interested to come and attend a class, meet our team, and see what a great benefit Taekwondo and martial arts as a whole can be. We harbor no judgment regardless of skill level and believe everyone is here to learn.

Yes. At U.S. Moo Do Academy we have students from all walks of life; Some of our students learned martial arts early on in life and are returning after a break of many years to train again. As well, some of our students have experience in other arts and have joined our school to learn something new. New students with experience in other arts will go through similar testing and adjudication procedures as students with no previous experience. Though we do have a curriculum, rules, and ways we teach, we encourage those who have previous martial arts experience to join us and share their knowledge as we share ours. We are a family and we love to learn together.
